What is a Rogue Planet and Possibility of Life There

  1. Rogue Planets

Rogue Planets

ROGUE PLANET, as per the name suggests that the planet is alone and has no family i.e. they are not a part of any system like our solar system. These types of planets float alone in a vast Galaxy & revolve directly to the 'Galactic Center' or center of the galaxy. But many rogue planets are found floating in the Intergalactic space also. There are millions of rogue planets discovered in our own galaxy- 'Milky Way'.

😉 Rogue planets can also be used as a base for galactic agencies, as they are very hard to track 😉 --- as in star war rebels.

These rogue planets have a very wide range of size, many are as big as Jupiter, many are like our Earth and some are what we call as the super-earth.

How does a Rogue Planet form?

As per the scientist's data analysis the number of rogue planets are growing exponentially in the last few 25 years. There are many theories that scientists have proposed for the formation of a Rogue planet. The most popular theory is as simple as the formation of a normal planet but some disturbances and interactions may happen that may result in a rogue planet.

As most of the planets born from the accretion disk around a star, rogue planets may also be born in between them. But later, other giant planets may have interacted and disrupted their orbital path and the planet might be flown away from its parental home.

This theory seems really believable and trustworthy because most of the planets are found to take birth in a star system and not lonely in vast space.

According to another theory (my idea 😎), rogue planets may also form alone in space with the gases and rocky debris. It may be possible somewhere in space that due to the shortage of matter i.e. dust and gases, when it starts to get accumulated to a point due to increasing gravity, it could not make enough size, pressure and temperature at its core and has transformed into a gas giant.

This may also happen and instead of a gas giant, a rocky planet may form if heavier elements may be present in the matter (by which it is formed).

Can a Rogue Planet have an atmosphere?

On most of the rogue planets, atmosphere is present due their big size that results in greater gravity. Atmosphere of these planets can contain any type of gas, from which the planet is made of i.e. the gas which was present for the planet's formation.

It's very hard to detect a rogue planet because it has no star, and no visible light it can transmit, hence hard to detect. But scientists use very precise gadgets and with various types of analyzing techniques to detect them.

These planets can't emit any radiation like stars, that can be easily detected. Hence, scientists use the planet's very weak infrared radiation, which can also give some information about the planet's atmosphere. There may not be any Oxygen and other essential elements that are needed for life.

There are many techniques of detecting the type of gases and chemicals in the atmosphere or surrounding of a distant planet. One such well known technique is detection by light rays as those light rays are refracted in the atmosphere of that planet and thus by analyzing the light rays scientists can gather information about the type of gases and chemicals that may be present in the surrounding medium of that particular planet. But one thing that is for sure is that the light which is being taken for the analysis by scientists is captured with the help of satellites in space, so as to avoid any other refraction due to Earth's atmosphere that may alter the results. So this is the way scientists get the approximate percentage amount of various gases and chemicals of a far planet from just looking up in the sky for the light rays.

Possibility of life on a Rogue Planet

Life on a Rogue Planet. Is it possible? 👀

It may be strange to think about life on a rogue planet because there is no star like our sun that can give energy to the planet constantly. But there may be, as the planet is not much hot at its surface but its core could be very much hot and can eject volcanoes and one more thing which is very much important for life is water, there may be water on this type of planet, if and only if the matter from which planet is made of contains H2O molecules or in the later time due to some conditions the H2 and O2 combines to form H2O molecule.

But it's true that we need extremely lucky chances to get life on a rogue planet. There must be something that can support life and, since these planets revolve directly around the galactic center they have very less chance to interact with other star systems to get in, its chance is very less that life growing properties could be found on these types of planets.

Give your ideas about the presence of life on a rogue planet...

We don't know much about these types of lonely planets, but scientists are researching this to understand them much better.
